ICC Expands T20 and ODI World Cup Teams
The scope of the men’s and women’s teams in the Cricket World Cup has been expanded. ICC expands T20 and ODI world Cup teams, according to the new rules, 14 teams will play in the Men’s ODI World Cup in 2026 and 2031. Also from 2024 to 2030; In other words, 20 teams will take part in four T20 World Cups.
The information was given in a press release after the ICC meeting on Tuesday (June 1).
The number of teams in the ODI and T20 World Cups has been increased. 14 teams to take part in the tournament, which will be held in 2026 and 2031. A total of 54 matches of 14 teams will be held in those two World Cups.
Besides, 20 teams will take part in 2024, 2026, 2028 and 2030 T20 World Cups. This popular short format of cricket will have 55 matches in four World Cups.
Meanwhile, the Champions Trophy is returning as well as increasing the number of teams and matches in the ODI and T20 World Cups. In 2025 and 2029, the Champions Trophy of 6 teams (15 matches) will be held. Besides, the next finals of ICC World Test Championship will be in 2025, 2027, 2029 and 2031.
The 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup will be held in 10 teams (23 matches). However, in 2026, 2028 and 2030, the Women’s T20 World Cup will be played with 12 teams (33 matches).
Besides, the 2025 edition of the Women’s Cricket World Cup will have 8 teams (31 matches) but in 2029 there will be 10 teams (48 matches). In 2026 and 2031, the T20 Champions Trophy will be in 6 teams (18 matches).
