Ireland Squad for T20 World Cup 2021 Announced
Cricket Ireland has announced a 16-member squad for the upcoming 2021 ICC T20 World Cup. There are also new faces in Ireland’s World Cup squad, along with veteran Paul Sterling and Kevin O’Brien.
In a statement issued today (September 9), the Irish Cricket Board has announced a 16-man squad (provisional) for the 2021 ICC Twenty20 World Cup, with three main stand-up cricketers and 15 stand-by cricketers.
For the first time, Graham Kennedy has been named in Ireland’s World Cup squad as a surprise. Gareth Delaney was called up after a long absence. Along with captain Andrew Balberny, the team includes veterans Paul Sterling, Kevin O’Brien, Barry McCarthy, Simi Singh, Shane Gatecott, and Harry Tector.
Ireland will travel to the United Arab Emirates on September 24 for a warm-up match and series ahead of the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup. The Irish will play two official warm-up matches against Papua New Guinea (October 12) and Bangladesh (October 14) before embarking on the World Cup campaign. Ireland will play in Group A against Sri Lanka, Namibia, and the Netherlands in the first round of the T20 World Cup 2021.
