MS Dhoni Will Be Mentor for India Cricket Team in T20 World Cup 2021
Former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni will be India’s mentor in this year’s T20 World Cup 2021. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed the matter on the day of the announcement of the T20 World Cup squad.
Former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni said goodbye to international cricket on August 15, 2020. However, he has not said goodbye to his cricketer career yet. He will be seen as the captain of the Chennai Super Kings in the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) this year.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni will work with his old teammates in different roles even if he is not with the team as a player. The BCCI has stated the matter. Regarding Dhoni’s appointment, BCCI member secretary Joy Shah said, “I talked to Dhoni while he was in Dubai. He is only interested in working as a mentor for the T20 World Cup.
“The decision to appoint him was taken after discussions with the captain, co-captain, and head coach,” he added.
This year’s T20 World Cup 2021 will be held from October 16 this year. The BCCI has announced the squad for the World Cup on Wednesday (September 8). Spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is the biggest surprise in the team.
