BCCI to Drop Virat Kohli from T20 World Cup 2024

According to Indian media, Virat Kohli might not be included in the India squad for the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup, starting from June 1 in the USA and the West Indies.

Jay Shah, the secretary of the BCCI, said that Rohit Sharma will be the captain of the Indian cricket team for the ICC Men’s Twenty20 World Cup 2024. Since India hasn’t won an ICC tournament since 2013, many fans have begun to doubt the Indian cricket team’s capacity to perform under pressure.

Virat Kohli Unlikely to Play T20 World Cup 2024

To be part of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, Virat Kohli will need to perform extraordinarily well for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League 2024.

The Telegraph reports that the management believes Virat hasn’t been able to play the aggressive style of cricket in the shortest format, hence the selectors aren’t interested in keeping Kohli in the team.

After England humiliated India in the 2022 T20 World Cup Semi-Final, Kohli missed more than a year of T20 International cricket.

Before making an unexpected comeback with Rohit Sharma for the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan, Kohli was absent from the T20 team for fourteen months.

Ajit Agarkar will persuade the seasoned player to create room for a younger player because the management (Roihit and Dravid) believes that Virat’s batting will not be suited to the slow wickets of the West Indies and the USA. Players like Suryakumar Yadav, Rinku Singh, Tilak Varma, and Shivam Dube, in the opinion of the BCCI’s top brass, bring greater value to the team than does Kohli.

KL Rahul will be the wicket-keeper batsman for the mega event, while the other two choices are Jitesh Sharma and Dhruv Jurel; their selection will depend on how well they perform in the IPL. By the first week of May, the ICC will get a list of the likely players.
