Dominica Will Not Host T20 World Cup 2024

Dominica Refuses to Host ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. The ICC selected seven Caribbean nations, including Dominica, to host the 2024 Twenty20 World Cup.

Among these nations, the Windsor Park Sports Stadium was designated to accommodate two Super 8 matches and one group stage match.

Nevertheless, the nation’s inability to meet the designated deadlines for venue completion prompted the government to declare publicly that no events would be hosted.

“Several tangible actions were taken both at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium and at Benjamin’s Park including the commencement of upgrading and enhancement of the practice and match venues, various assessments, and the creation of additional pitches where necessary,” the Dominica government stated.

“However, upon reviewing the implementation schedules provided by the different contractors, it became apparent that these tasks could not be finished in time to prevent the tournament from commencing as planned.”

Consequently, the Government of Dominica was deemed unwise to commit to hosting any matches during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. Accordingly, a resolution was reached not to host any of the matches.

This determination has been ratified by the Ministry of Tradition, Youth, Sports Activities, and Neighborhood Development in Dominica. Notwithstanding Dominica’s considerable zeal and progress thus far in organizing matches, the federal government assessed proposed schedules after consulting with their contractors.

Upon thorough deliberation, it was determined that more than the time allotted to fulfill the responsibilities specified in the Memorandum of Understanding between CWI and the Authorities of Dominica would be required.

Cricket West Indies is informed regarding the current situation.

Johnny Grave, the Chief Executive Officer of CWI, conveyed gratitude to the Authorities of Dominica for their diligent efforts in preparing to serve as hosts for matches during the ICC Men’s Twenty20 World Cup 2024.

The individual acknowledged the rationales for the decision and confirmed that CWI was aware of the situation. Grave further conveyed a sense of optimism regarding prospective partnerships with the Dominican Government and the Dominica Cricket Association to organize international contests.

The Match Director for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, Fawwaz Baksh, underscored that organizing online tournaments of this scale often involves unforeseen circumstances requiring adjustments and modification to strategies.
